Les historiens Indien et Britannique Rana Chhina et Tony McClenaghan, avaient visité le Lycée Varoquaux en juillet dernier pour filmer nos élèves et les interviewer dans le cadre d'un long reportage sur l'implication des soldats indiens dans la Première Guerre Mondiale. L'implication de nos historiens en herbe les avait touchés et en cette fin d'année 2018, les commémorations et le travail de mémoire passaient évidemment par la Lorraine. Comme promis, ils sont revenus pour l'hommage rendu aux travailleurs de l'Indian Labour Corps morts en Lorraine et dont les sépultures sont désormais signalées par la plaque dessinée par nos élèves. Cette plaque fut posée le 22 septembre au cimetière d'Azelot, là où un des aérodromes fut construit par ces travailleurs méconnus, en présence des historiens Rana Chhina et Tony McClenaghan, du Maire d' Azelot M. , du Député M. Two historians of the Great War visit Varoquaux: Military historian and Indian Air Force veteran Rana Chhina and Tony McClenaghan , British historian and Secretary of the Indian Military Historical Society were among us for two days on 3 and 4 July 2018 to meet some of the students who have worked on the involvement of the Indian Labour Corps in Lorraine during the First World War. It all started three years ago with the task assigned to the students by their History teacher, Jérôme Janczukiewicz , to pay tribute to these modest but essential labourers who paved the way for the planes of the Bristish Royal Flying Corps to safely land and take off, often in harsh conditions. Indeed these Indian labourers' work in Lorraine mainly consisted in building the military airfields in the region.
